The Concept
Laxmi and Rashida is a women empowerment initiative which seeks to build long term sustained livelihood income source for women living in disadvantaged communities. It also seeks to empower women from women within the community. Named after our grandmothers(who were/our super entrepreneurial) , made with love by young girls and women of Mankhurd Slums, each product is a step towards being eco-friendly. To start, we began with selling coasters made by upcycling unused cloth scraps and bottle cap during diwali season.
The project works in the intersection of climate , social equity, livelihood nd gender prity

How it works
Response
The product in its first phase had an unprecedented response. We sold 103 coasters and raised Rs 21360 proceeds, equally divided amongst 8 girls. They went out and bought gifts and monthly rations for them.
The product also received bulk orders for the Harvard Conference.
The future interventions will move towards creating a safe space to discuss their regular issues, money management and investment and also learning the required skills ( like computers, english speaking, design principles knowledge ) to help them run the initiative sustainably and smoothly.
